NANCY MINTIE, J.D.

Uncommon Good’s Executive Director, Nancy Mintie, is an attorney and a successful nonprofit leader with many decades of experience working with low-income clients. In 1980, Mintie founded the Inner City Law Center (ICLC) in Skid Row, Los Angeles. For twenty years, Mintie successfully represented low-income and homeless clients, and the ICLC gained national recognition for its outstanding work. However, Mintie wanted to work closer to the root cause of poverty and to effect lasting change for people aiming to break out of the intergenerational cycle of poverty. So in 2000, Mintie followed the migration of low-income families into the Pomona Valley—where very few resources existed—and founded Uncommon Good. Since then, Mintie has grown the organization into an education, health, and environmental success story—helping thousands permanently break the cycle of poverty by attaining a college education, leadership skills, and better health.  Mintie has received many awards for her work, including being honored on Capitol Hill with former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, being honored by the American Bar Association, and being featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Mintie is also a poet. Her book, Poems For A World Yet To Be, is available on Amazon. It chronicles in poetry her life’s pursuit of social justice, love and spirituality. Proceeds from sales are donated to Uncommon Good.
